| I bought a beautiful Gardenia and would like to know if I can plant it outside (and have it survive) or if I need to keep it inside. The Gardenia is pretty big, probably 3'X 3' in a 16" pot. It has several blooms on it it's been outside since I bought it and looks pretty good so far. |
| Your newly acquired gardenia will not survive the winters in your region, but can be left outside during the spring and summer months. Keep it out of direct mid-day sunshine, but provide a bright exposure; morning sunshine should be okay. Gardenia's need a minimum temperature of 60F degrees, moist soil during the growing season, and ample humidity. Mist the leaves frequently when the plant is indoors. If you subject the plant to temperatures lower than 60F degrees, the plant will not produce flower buds. Gardenia's make wonderful houseplants! |
