The Q&A Archives: Pygmy Date Palms

Question: They come 2 to a pot. Am I supposed to cut between them to encourage growth ? I've seen them grown together and seperate almost like they were split apart . thank you

Answer: You can separate them while they are small, or you can leave them together and plant each potfull as though it was a single plant. Because of the potential size of a pygmy date palm, I'd be inclined to cut them apart and plant them separately. Remove the nursery pot and slice straight down between the palms with a sharp knife. Then plant immediately. Best wishes with your palms.
