We planted a small, unbranched Plumeria rubra this summer. It had 3 or 4 leaves growing from the top of a single stalk. During the course of the winter, all of the leaves turned yellow and fell off. Is this normal for a Plumeria in the winter? |
What you describe is normal for a plumeria. Plumeria rubra, Frangipani or Hawaiian Plumeria, is only just slightly tolerant of temperatures below 40F degrees. It's a deciduous shrub or small tree with thick pointed leaves that drop in winter or early spring. It blooms from June-November if it receives full sunshine and is kept on the dry side during the winter months. Your plant should produce new leaves soon. Enjoy! |
