| It's normal for hydrangeas to lose their leaves during the winter months. The best time to prune hydrangeas back is in the early spring, just as new growth begins. In southern California, February is a great time to prune them back. To encourage new stems and leaves, prune the stems down by at least half. As the weather warms you should see new leaf buds swell on the stems and then open. Flowers should appear on the tips of the branches later this summer. Best wishes with your hydrangea! |
