I planted clematis one month ago in the ground. Due to the unusually warm weather in central Texas, the plants began to emerge and were growing well. We had a freeze one week ago and now two of the three plants have their leaves shriveled up and dark brown. One plant is still green and continues to vine. Should I cut back the other two to the ground and hope that they come back?
Answer: Your plan sounds like a good one. If more frost threatens, heap some mulch or other organic matter over the bottom of the plant to protect the roots. Best wishes with your clematis!
