The Q&A Archives: Tuberous Begonia planting time

Question: I dug up my tuberous Begonias last fall and I wanted to start them inside to give them a head start. We live in Zone 3 and sometimes have frost until Memorial Day. When should I start them?? and should I give them plant food after planting. Thank You Kathy

Answer: I know you're anxious to get gardening but you don't want to start your tuberous begonias until late March or early April or they won't adapt well to going outdoors when the weather warms. Wait until late March to start them. After they've begun growing you can feed them with a half strength dilution of liquid fertilizer. Feed every two weeks with the diluted fertilizer and they should grow strong and sturdy.
