The Q&A Archives: Hillside Ground Cover

Question: I have a hillside on a salt water bay with an easterly exposure. I was considering crown vetch to help landscape and hold the embankment. A short growing season with cool sea breezes makes growing warm weather plants almost impossible. The temperature was never above 87 last year.

Answer: Crownvetch is a great option for erosion control, and should thrive on the site you've described. It can become invasive, though, so think about other options, too, such as native plants.
