How large of a pot would a fig tree need outside? Which species would do best with morning sun, on the east side of my house? Banana trees grow well there, although I've never harvested fruit from them.

The roots of a fig tree will need some room to grow so consider using a large container such as a half whiskey barrel. You'll find these in most garden centers. Plants in containers need to be closely monitored during the summer months and watered as often as necessary to keep the soil from drying out and baking in the heat. Mission or Celeste figs grow well in Arizona. Best wishes with your fig tree!
