| I have a lemon /lime tree that has never flowered' i do feed it. It has a lot of thorn branches. Should these be cut off? thanks Marie |
| Citrus trees need lots of sunshine, regular feeding and ample water. When they are mature enough they will flower and produce fruit. If yours has never flowered, it may not be getting the things it needs, or it may be too young. Thorns are natural on a citrus tree so you don't need to cut them off. The only other reason your tree might not flower is if it was grafted onto a rootstock and the grafted top part died down or was overtaken by the more vigorous rootstock. Check the trunk of your tree for a swelling or other indication of a graft and then follow the branches up from there. The original grafted top part will have branches from directly above the graft; if branches are coming from below the graft, they should be cut from the tree so the grafted branches can grow and produce flowers and fruit. |
