Is it better to start spring vegetables like carrots and brocoli outside or inside? IF outside when is the best time for Long Island?

Carrots don't transplant well so they should be sown directly into the garden. Broccoli does transplant well so you can either start them indoors now and set the plants out in the garden in late April, or sow the seeds directly into the garden at that time. Planting dates vary each year but plants that don't mind cool soils (broccoli, for instance) can go into the garden in late April. Others should wait 4-6 weeks for the soil to warm.
