The Q&A Archives: vegetable garden soil

Question: How do I get rid of the weeds and grass in the vegetable garden without using chemicals?

Answer: I'd hoe the weeds out or hand dig them and then cover over the entire area with either cardboard, several thicknesses of newspaper, or weed block material. The idea is to prevent sunlight from reaching the soil where the weed seeds are resting. Without light, the seeds won't germinate. You can cut holes or slits in the paper or weed block when it's time to plant your veggies or start your veggie seeds. Best wishes with your garden!
