| Last year I pulled up my geraniums and shook the soil off them and hung them upside down in the basement. I was told to wait until spring and then soak them and replant them outside. Will this work and if so, when do I start soaking the roots and for howlong? |
| If your geraniums were properly stored (at 45F - 50F degrees), and the stems are still solid and stiff, you can cut what's left of the top down to about one-third, and pot the roots up in moist potting soil rather than soaking the plant. Your geraniums should spring to life in a few weeks. If you'd rather plant them directly outdoors, wait until mid-May, when the soil and air temperatures have warmed up. Next fall, take cuttings and overwinter your geraniums indoors so you'll have growing plants to put outdoors. That way you'll get a jump-start on the season. |
