The Q&A Archives: deer have eaten the bark of a young cherry tree around the whole tree about 12 "

Question: Can i do anything to save the tree? there is or was growth on the branches. i tied stockings around the bark of the tree to try to deter the deer. i can put up a taller fence but the damage is done.

Answer: I know you are tempted to dress the wound, but anything you put there will hinder the natural callousing over of the wound so it's best to simply leave it alone. To keep deer from gnawing again, drive 3 stakes into the ground on 3 sides of the tree and attach chicken wire to form a barrier so the deer can't access the tree. Once the tree grows larger the deer should leave it alone.

Best wishes with your garden!
