| Am looking for a quick growing shade tree that will grow well in very poor soil with a lot of limestone rock chunks. Would like the trees to be able to withstand ice, high winds, drought and poor soil (cedar grows very well). Will be planted in full sun. |
| The University of Arkansas recommends oaks, (including willow oak, shumard oak, cherrybark oak and pin oak), tulip poplars, bald cypress, and sweetgum as shade trees in your gardening region. There is a new sweetgum (Liquidamber Rotundifolia) on the market that does not produce sweet gum balls, which is especially good in a lawn area. Hope these suggestions help! |
