The Q&A Archives: when do I move Hydrangia

Question: We moved our hydrangias for a house remodel. I now want to move them to their final place. When should I move them? I live in the Outer Banks of NC. Coastal. 27948

Answer: You can replant your hydrangeas at any time. It is less stressful for plants to be moved in the cooler months of the year - either spring or fall - but if you have to wait until summer just remember to shade them until they become established and water deeply to keep them hydrated. I'd move them now if at all possible, water them in well and wait for new growth to appear later in the spring. Enjoy your garden!
