The yard next door has bamboo, and it is spreading through the chain link fence into my yard. What can I do to control and or stop it?

Either root pruning or a physical barrier will keep running bamboo in check. For root pruning you'll need a spade. Just push the spade into the ground and remove it. Go all around the area that you want to stop the bamboo from encroaching. This cuts the roots and keeps the bamboo in check. It is a simple method and will work if done correctly twice a year, mid to late summer and in the fall. Or, you can dig a trench 24" deep and 4" wide and then fill it with concrete. Or you can line the trench with 30 mil plastic or set sheets of galvanized patio covering in the trench. The fiberglass or galvanized metal sheets come in 24" wide, 6-12' long panels. Just set them on their sides in the trench and then cover over with soil. Best wishes with your project!
