The Q&A Archives: new lawn

Question: I live in Dana Point, Ca, planting a new lawn, some in under shade of a tree also steep sloping, very hard soil. How do I test the soil? What grass is best?

Answer: You can find a list of Soil Testing Labs in your local telephone book or you can contact the Cooperative Extension office in your county for a list of soil testing labs in your area. Warms season grasses such as Kentucky Blue or Bermuda will grow best in your gardening region. Best wishes with your landscape.
