Shady Area in part of back yard - Knowledgebase Question

I have a mostly shaded area in the back yard approx 20ftx 20ft that grass does not want to grow. the grass that does grow is thin and wispy. What kind of grass would grow in this area? thanks

Unless you have at least 1/2 day of sun in your backyard, grasses simply won't thrive. You might want to grow groundcovers and use mulch instead. Try groundcovers such as wild ginger, goutweed, ivy or pachysandra and mulch heavily traveled areas with bark mulch. This will keep things looking nice and green - and you won't have to mow! Enjoy your landscape.
