| Large pines typically have very deep root systems and as a result get most of the moisture they need from rainfall and from runoff or percolation when you water the rest of your landscape. If the trees are very large you won't be able to apply water deeply enough to reach the roots. Shedding needles is a part of having pine trees. They make good mulch material which, if left beneath the trees, will help slow water evaporation. Every 2-3 years you can rake the excess pine needles up and use them as mulch for around your other plants. Most importantly, enjoy your trees! |
