I bought some lily of the valley and they look like dead sticks! How deep should I plant them? I cannot tell where the roots are. They are about 5-6 inches long. Should I plant the entire stick? Or should some be left exposed?

What you bought are called 'pips' and, you're right, they look like dead sticks! Plant the pips 4 or 5 inches apart, 1/1/2 inches deep, in loose, well-draining soil. Lily of the Valley will bloom in May.
