A couple years ago, I read about a bamboo that could grow in zone 5. It was a clumping bamboo. I have never been able to find it in my area (NE Ohio, Cleveland-Akron area). Have you ever seen any?

What you are looking for is a hardy clumping bamboo and surprisingly, there are a number of plants from which to choose. You may have difficulty finding them locally but I did a web search and came up with a site with lots of bamboos. http://www.bamboogarden.com/Ha...

You can learn all about the hardy clumping varieties by visiting the site.

Best wishes with your new bamboo~
