Hydrangeas are typically pruned in early spring, just as the buds begin to swell on the branches. Cut yours back to 18 inches from the ground and then thin out any old or non-productive stems. Hydrangeas produce flowers on new growth which emerges from old growth so the 18 inch stems should provide plenty of space for lots of new flowering growth. Enjoy your hydrangeas!
