| Wait until you begin to see the buds swell on the branches and then lightly prune your laceleaf maple. Light pruning is the key - if you prune back to a bare branch, no new leaves will appear, but lightly pruning on an annual basis will force new growth at the tips of the branches and also further back on those branches, making a denser canopy. The idea is to keep the plant producing leaves on a branch. Once it ceases to do so, that branch will be forever bare. Best wishes with your maple! |
