I planted a small black lace elderberry 2 years ago. Last year it had about 5 main limbs out of the middle of the plant. Do I cut them down to the base this spring before it turns green? They are all long but not standing upright. I want a bushyier look.

Your black lace elderberry should be pruned every year to encourage a bushy appearance. Prune it back now so it has a more symmetrical look and then plan on pruning it each spring to encourage a dense and bushy shrub. Enjoy your garden!
