The Q&A Archives: caterpillers in central Fla.

Question: How to rid azalea plants of orange caterpillers without harming my cats & wild birds & squirrels

Answer: You can handpick and destroy the Azalea caterpillars or you can use the botanical Bt (sold as Dipel). Bt, or Bacillus thuringensis, is a bacterium which acts as a stomach poison and affects only caterpillars. It is harmless to humans, pets, birds, etc. Apply according to label directions.
