The Q&A Archives: deck repair

Question: we bought deck paint two years ago a 5 gallon at home depot, then for some reason was not able to do the painting of the deck . the paint is still in our basement . was wondering if i needed to take it back to get it mixed up? is it still good ? pretty new to the the deck thing .

Answer: I'm sure all the pigment has settled to the bottom of the container but the paint itself should be just fine as long as you stir it up well. It might be easier to take it back to Home Depot and ask them to put it on the shaker for you. Hand stirring will work, but an automatic shaker can do it a lot faster! As long as paint is not stored in extremely hot or extremely cold places, it will last for years in a sealed container. I've used 6 year old paint to cover up damage on a bedroom wall after my son accidentally kicked a hole in it. The paint matched perfectly! Best wishes with your deck painting project!
