The Q&A Archives: Choosing Lavender for Sachets

Question: I would like to know what type(s) of lavender I might plant that would provide the best material for lavender sachets. If possible I'd like a variety that would yield something I could use the first year of planting. Is it practical to plant lavender in my locale or could I only expect marginal results? Thank you. Bob Burkert St. Louis, MO

Answer: The best lavenders for sachets are the Nglish trypes.'Munstead' and 'Lady' are two cultivars that grow well and should overwinter in your area. 'Lady' in particular should provide usual flowers nad leaves the first year of planting from seed..
