i have planted leland cypress in the front of my house, they are now huge. how can i cut them downs shorter so that they do not look ridiculous. |
Leyland Cypress is fast-growing (3-4 feet a year) and can be sheared to promote a bushy growth habit. It is an excellent choice for quick screens, hedges and groupings. Pruning encourages additional growth and shearing just a few inches from the tips of the branches should force growth inside the plant near the trunk as well as at the site of pruning. If you prune back to bare branches, your plants may not green up again, so take the pruning slow and easy and plan on reducing the size of your Leyland Cypresses over a period of 3-4 years. Best wishes with your landscape! |
