The Q&A Archives: Calla Lilies

Question: I recently planted some calla lilies and think maybe I planted them upside down. How can I tell which way is up???

Answer: The pointed end should go up. You can look for the sides of the tubers that appears to have the most "eyes" or growing points, which appear much like the eyes on a potato. Plant the tubers with the eyes facing up.

If you think you planted them upside down, dig them up now before they begin to grow. Sometimes, you just can't tell which end of a bulb goes up. In this case you can plant them sideways and they will right themselves and grow up towards the soil surface.

Best wishes with your callas!
