One of my local Home Depot stores still has some Christmas trees in pots or root balls that have been sitting there in well below freezing temperatures. Much of the time the rootballs have been frozen solid. No one seems to know if they have been watered or not. If I purchase them will they grow or are they already dead? |
I'd be a little suspicious of the trees. Likely they have received no care at all and while most are hardy, it's difficult to say with certainty. Instead, choose healthy evergreens from current shipments. Even if you have to purchase smaller plants because of the cost difference, the newer plants will be much healthier and will reward you with good growth in the coming years. If the old Christmas trees were being given away, and if you had plenty of room, you might try planting a few, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing them, even at a deep discount. Best wishes with your landscape! |
