We planted garlic from Burpee this year. Can it be harvested this year or should we wait until next year? I know some bulbs we should leave in the ground for a couple years before we can use them.

Garlic should be harvested before it sends up a flower stalk. The flower takes energy from the bulbs, resulting in smaller, low quality garlic. It's best to plant your garlic bulbs in October and harvest in the spring after the leaves have begun to turn brown. If it starts to grow a flower stalk, you've waited too long. There's no need to wait a few years before harvesting.
