The Q&A Archives: Tomato Fertilizer

Question: What is the best fertilizer for tomatoes and peppers?

Answer: Both tomato plants and pepper plants respond well to fertilizer applications, especially phosphorus (which promotes flowering). Excess nitrogen fertilizer can result in plants with extremely vigorous vine growth but little fruit production. Apply a complete fertilizer, such as 5-10-10, 5-20-20, or 8-16-16.
