We have just gotten two new puppies and they like to dig in my back yard. I was wondering if I could put sand aroung the crepe myrtle for the dogs to have a place to dig. Will it kill the treee? Do i need to change the watering requirements?

Your pups are likely to damage the roots of your crape myrtle if you allow them to dig in the vicinity. Instead of encouraging them to dig there, I'd be more likely to place a barrier so they cannot easily dig there. Try finding another place in your yard, away from plants, where your dogs can dig to their hearts content.
