I live in zone 4. Is there a pampas grass that I can plant in my area? I have an area near a large pine tree that I would like to border with pampas grass as a privacy screen. Thanks, Bill

Pampas grass is not hardy to zone 4 but you might try a look-alike substitute: Erianthus ravennae (Saccharum ravennae). It's commonly called hardy pampas grass but it is not really a pampas grass, but part of the sugarcane family. Showy, 2 ft. long silvery white silky plumes have gorgeous autumn coloring. Foliage has a clumping habit. Full sun. Fast growing 8 to 10 ft. tall. Flowers reach above the blades. It is hardy in zone 4.
