Austrian pines have an extensive root system and produce lots of surface roots as they mature. Unless you can do some root pruning to keep the roots from undermining the foundation of your home, this is probably not a good choice for the site. Instead, why not plant Dwarf Alberta spruce (Picea glauca 'Conica')? The dwarf Alberta spruce is a miniature conical shaped tree. It grows very slowly and seldom needs pruning. The bright green, dense foliage makes it attractive and it will be safe to plant within 10 of your home.
