We have 2 large pear trees in our front lawn that were damaged during the wind storm. Lost 1/2 of one and about 3/4 of the other. Can we cut the remaining tops off and have the trees survive?

I would prune out the winter damage and then as much of the remaining tree as necessary to produce a nice, even shape. There's no guarantee your trees will grow well, especially after losing half to three quarters of the growth, but pruning will certainly encourage new growth and there's always hope! Best wishes with your trees!
