I am a commercial landscaper in the Pittsburgh area and I usually start my spring cleanups around mid March. Directly after the cleanup is when I spot seed the customers lawn. Lawns that I spot seed on March 15th take 10 to 14 days to germinate. Lawns spot seeded on April 1st take 5 to 7 days but both come in equally as thick. Grass seed and fertilizer have risen in cost dramatically this year |
I'm guessing your question is why the difference in germination times. If so, it has to do with soil temperatures. Although two weeks doesn't sound like a great deal of time, soil temperatures can rise the few degrees required to prompt faster germination. |
