The Q&A Archives: Sources for Short Day Onions

Question: For years I have had dividing onions which I set out in the fall and have been able to harvest during the winter and spring for green onions suitable for salads or to eat with a dip. They are very sweet. I have been out of the country for several years and have not been able to find them again. My family has always them called "winter onions". What are they and how can I find them again? Ron Chappell Santa Rosa, CA

Answer: I think what you're referring to are short day onions. A good selection for California is available through, Lockhart Seed Company P.O. Box 1361 Stockton, CA 95202 209-466-4401.
