What does the sweet olive shrub require--sun or shade? And what should I watch for to get best growth? |
Sweet olive (Osmanthus fragrans) likes a spot where it will get good sun, but be shaded from the fierce sun during the hottest part of the day. If the soil is sufficiently moist, all-day sun is fine. They like adequately drained and reasonably fertile soil--no unusual requirements here. They require no regular pruning, though you can cut back any diseased or dead branches, or straggly growth. Sweet olives adapt well to container growing. The main pests to watch out for are aphids and scale. Good luck! |
