There are several possible reasons. First, cucumbers are sensitive to soils high in nitrogen. For some reason, really rich soil annoys them and they turn white a die. The second most common cause is chilly nighttime temperatures. And, finally, there is a disease that can cause these symptoms. So my suggestion is to plant your cucumbers in plain garden soil in a spot that has never grown cucumbers before; plant disease resistant varieties; be prepared to place hot caps or other protection over the new plants if nighttime temperatures are predicted to drop below 40F

Best wishes with your plants!
