The Q&A Archives: What about broken concrete?

Question: Given that it is important to have good drainage in the bottom of tree wells and 1 way is to use broken pots, what about using pieces of broken concrete?

Answer: Good drainage is important but broken pots or concrete are not suitable materials for the bottoms of tree wells. They contain minerals and chemicals that can adversely affect plants. Instead, use organic matter such as compost, straw, shredded leaves, etc. Good luck with your garden!
