| I purchased a bromeliad 2 plus years ago with a large blossom which lasted for 6 months. The plant formed 3 offshoots. It gets adequate sun and is watered correctly, looks healthy but has failed to send up another flower. Would appreciate any suggestions. |
| Each lead of any bromeliad only flowers once, but the offshoots should each flower when they're mature enough. Don't remove these offshoots from the mother plant until they're about 1/3 the size of the mom, or until you can see the root mass forming. then remove by cutting from the mother plant and repotting. When plants are reluctant to bloom, you can sometimes induce blooming by exposing them to ethylene gas. Do this by emptying the water in the plant's cup and placing the plant in a clear plastic bag with a ripe apple for 7-10 days. (The apple gives off ethylene gas.) Remove the plant from the bag. Your bromeliad should flower in 6-14 weeks after this treatment. |
