A couple of years ago we had out 10 year old plum tree pruned and they did a lousy job. The branches were left too high and when the fruit came in they broke with the weight. I would like to try this myself, when is the right time, what branches do I cut and how low should I trim the top?

I can provide a website address with lots of helpful information and sketches about fruit tree pruning and training. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/... After you've read the publication you might have a better idea of what your "expert" did and why. You'll also read some suggestions on how to get your tree back into shape. Hope it is helpful!
