I have just bought seeds for zinnias and marigolds. When would be a good time to plant the seeds in flats.

Marigold seeds pop up only a few days after being sown so hold off on them for a few more weeks. Zinnias take longer to germinate and grow so you can sow the seeds in mid-March and they will be large enough to plant outside after the first of May. So your marigod seeds in mid-April. Best wishes with your garden!
