I need a ground cover which will propagate itself and be resistant to dogs running over it. Full sun and some shade. We're in a drought here, so would like xeriscape-type plantings, if possible.

I suggest a goundcover called Sweetbox. It is evergreen and has wonderfully fragrant flowers early in the spring. The latin name is Sarcococa hookerana and the variety is called humilis. Be sure to purchase the dwarf variety - otherwise you'll get a 4-6 foot shrub. I'm sure the doggies will like it too...but in a good way.
