Chrysanthemums grow wonderfully well in cool climates but do not fare well in Florida because of the heat. Morning sun and afternoon shade seem to be best for long-term plantings -- the Florida sun is just too hot for good growth. Some gardeners seem to find just the right spot for mums and they live for a year or more giving frequent color displays. But most of us are not as lucky, and we use them as we would annuals for short-term garden or container plantings. It's not anything that you're doing wrong when your mums last only a few months - it's the heat. Just consider them annuals and enjoy them while you can!
