| Last year I planted giant begonia bulbs in hanging baskets which were absolutely beautiful. At the end of the season I cut back the stems and left the bulbs in the pots. So far I have not seen any life in them. Will they come back this year? |
| Tuberous begonias are typically stored in a dry location over the winter months for replanting the following spring. If you left the tubers in the baskets and kept them dry, they should begin to resprout this month. If they remained wet all winter long they may have died. I would begin watering regularly now, in March, and wait to see if they will sprout. If you see no new growth by mid-April, the tubers did not survive and need to be replaced. If you replace them, remember to store them in a cool, dry place at the end of the season and replant in March. Best wishes with your begonias! |
