I would like to start a wildflower garden in an area of my yard where I currently have a lawn. Do I have to remove all the lawn grass or can I just put loam over the current lawn grass and sow the wildflower seeds.

As long as the seeds you sow make good contact with the soil so they can root well, they should grow just fine. Begin by raking the existing lawn to make little furrows in the soil. Then broadcast your seeds and water them in well. Spring rains should take over and provide adequate moisture to make the wildflower seeds sprout. Enjoy your new garden!
