Spring is an excellent time to dig and transplant so wait until the weather is warm enough to work outdoors, and after your forsythia has finished blooming. You can cut it back to a manageable size and then start digging. You can expect the major roots to be directly beneath the plant in the top 12-18 inches of soil. It's okay to sever some of the fibrous roots, but try to keep the larger roots intact. Best wishes with the move! |
