| Recently, the power company has placed a hugh (4'x4'4') transformer box in our yard. We can not plant around it to cover but years ago in N.C. a well compnay used to make available a fiberglass-type product that looked like a boulder to cover over well caps. One could then landscape around this rock-like cover. I have spent 2 months trying to find such a product and have had no luck. This big green box has ruined our curb appeal and I am very distressed. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks |
| Unfortunately, this product doesn't ring any bells with me or with the rest of the staff. I'm surprized they couldn't help you find a source of the fiberglass cover! In the condo we have in Connecticut, we have a similar problem. The utility company has to have access to transformer boxes. If you want to plant around them, that's fine, but if the power company wants to get into them, your plants will be cut down. In 20 years they never have had to do that here. Are you willing to take that chance? You might ask the power company what they think. The Public Relations office at the utility should certainly be interested in how the company's activities are affecting customers, and may have suggestions or solutions. Another option would be to use "mobile planters": little red wagons or wheelbarrows filled with soil and planted with annuals. You could surround the box with these, and move them when needed. |
